Description
Le spectacle retrace l’histoire de Roger Ier, conquérant de la Sicile, et met en lumière un parcours hors du commun. Il suit l’ascension d’un fils de petit seigneur normand devenu mercenaire, jusqu’à la conquête de l’île au terme de plus de trente années d’engagement.
L’ensemble propose un moment de divertissement rythmé, ponctué de touches d’humour, tout en apportant des repères et des clés de compréhension sur cette page méconnue de l’histoire, marquée par sa complexité et sa violence.
Le récit met en avant le rôle des femmes, les alliances politiques et les stratégies déployées, révélant la construction progressive d’une culture cosmopolite à l’origine d’importants héritages architecturaux, scientifiques et techniques.
Projet collectif et fédérateur, le spectacle mobilise une centaine de bénévoles. Il intègre une chorale d’enfants préparant des chants en normand en partenariat avec les établissements scolaires. La musique, spécialement composée pour l’événement, est interprétée en direct par l’Harmonie Municipale « Les Persévérants ».
Texte écrit par Véronique Martin-Morvan, accompagnée de Célia Bréard (Cie des Grands Gamins). Un comité scientifique est constitué pour rendre un avis sur les éléments historiques relatés dans le texte.

The show recounts the story of Roger I, the conqueror of Sicily, and highlights his extraordinary journey. It follows the rise of the son of a minor Norman lord who became a mercenary, culminating in the conquest of the island after more than thirty years of service.
The production offers a lively and entertaining experience, punctuated by touches of humor, while providing context and insights into this little-known chapter of history, markedby its complexity and violence.
The narrative highlights the role of women, the political alliances, and the strategies employed, revealing the gradual development of a cosmopolitan culture that gave rise to significant architectural, scientific, and technical legacies.
A collective and unifying project, the show involves about a hundred volunteers. It features a children’s choir preparing songs in the Norman dialect in partnership with local schools. The music, composed specifically for the event, is performed live by the “Les Persévérants” Municipal Band.
Text written by Véronique Martin-Morvan, with assistance from Célia Bréard (Cie des Grands Gamins). A scientific committee has been formed to provide an opinion on the historical elements described in the text.
