On the heights of the site, on the left bank of the Meillon, the soils resting directly on the sandstone are acidic, poor in nutritive elements and very exposed to the drying action of the wind and the sun. These conditions favor the development of sub-shrubs characteristic of moors (heather, dwarf gorse, English broom).
In the sectors where the sandstone outcrops, these ligneous plants give way to small herbs, often with early flowering (bare-stemmed teesdalia, small-fruited aphane, delicate bird's foot, rock bedstraw).
These well vegetated and very sunny environments are appreciated by many animal species: insects (bees, orthopterans...), spiders, orvets, snakes.
