Rares sont les prisons anciennes encore ouvertes à la visite…Celle de Tinchebray, forte de plus de 400 ans d’histoire, offre une plongée saisissante dans la justice d’autrefois. Cellules, cachot, chapelle et salle du tribunal révèlent le quotidien des prisonniers et des « suspects » à l’époque troublée de la Révolution française. L’ambiance est intacte, l’émotion bien réelle. La visite se poursuit dans la Salle du Conseil puis au Tribunal, où l’on a la surprenante impression d’assister à une audience en cours. La visite est animée par Bernard Deveaux, guide passionné et profondément attaché au lieu, qui fait revivre ces murs chargés d’histoires et transmet avec enthousiasme toute la dimension humaine de ce site exceptionnel. Une expérience immersive et accessible à tous, entre mémoire, émotions et découverte.

Few old prisons are still open to visitors, but the one in Tinchebray, with over 400 years of history, offers a fascinating insight into the justice system of yesteryear.
Cells, dungeons, a chapel and a courtroom reveal the daily life of prisoners and suspects during the troubled times of the French Revolution. The atmosphere is intact, the emotion very real.
The tour continues in the Salle du Conseil and then in the Tribunal, where you have the surprising impression of attending a court hearing in progress.
The tour is led by Bernard Deveaux, a passionate guide with a deep attachment to the site, who brings these walls steeped in history to life and enthusiastically conveys the human dimension of this exceptional site.
