Description
La puissance d’un souffle irrépressible – musical, chorégraphique – emporte vers des sommets la pièce Näss (Les gens) de Fouad Boussouf. On se souvient de l’aura exceptionnelle du groupe musical Nass El Ghiwane, dans le Maroc des années 70. Puisant dans les sons traditionnels, ce groupe résonnait aussi avec la contestation populaire. N’y a-t-il pas une analogie avec le rôle occupé par le hip hop des origines ?
Sur scène, 7 danseurs à la maîtrise impressionnante d’une palette de techniques très diversifiées. Le chorégraphe a patiemment inspiré et orchestré une composition de groupe qui tient toujours en haleine. Ses combinaisons inépuisables ne veulent rien perdre d’une culture du pays d’origine (où Fouad Boussouf a transporté la troupe pour une partie du travail), tout en la vivifiant au bain des danses urbaines. Quelque chose d’un grand rite, d’une transe, imprègne le tumulte sacré de Näss (Les gens).

The power of an inexpressible burst—musical, choreographic—lifts Fouad Boussouf’s play *N%E4ss* (*The People*) to new heights. We remember the exceptional aura of the band Nass El Ghiwane in 1970s Morocco. Drawing on traditional sounds, this group also resonated with popular protest. Isn’t there an analogy here with the role played by early hip-hop?
On stage, seven dancers demonstrate impressive mastery of a wide range of techniques. The choreographer has patiently conceived and orchestrated a group composition that keeps the audience on the edge of their seats. His inexhaustible combinations seek to preserve the culture of the country of origin (where Fouad Boussouf took the troupe for part of the work), while revitalizing it through urban dance styles. Something of a grand ritual, of a trance, permeates the sacred tumult of *Näss* (*The People*).
