Description
Au temps présent, une dame polonaise vit dans une maison de retraite. Elle a 94 ans, s’appelle Irena et son apparence rend insoupçonnables les actions héroïques, accomplies durant la Seconde Guerre mondiale. Elle et son réseau de femmes ont sauvé 2 500 enfants juifs du ghetto de Varsovie et de la déportation, au péril de leur vie.
Pendant qu’en parallèle, trois étudiantes du Kansas enquêtent sur ce personnage, de sa chambre, Irena convoque ses souvenirs, tisse les bribes d’une pensée qui s’étiole, afin que l’inimaginable reste à jamais gravé... Naviguant entre fiction et réalité historique, passé et présent, Irena raconte les maux d’hier pour soigner ceux d’aujourd’hui, fait résonner les notions de courage et d’humanité, éclaire la grande Histoire et les petites. Mais il n’y a pas de grandes ou de petites histoires dans la vie... il y a la Vie !

Today, a Polish woman lives in a nursing home. She is 94 years old, her name is Irena, and her appearance gives no hint of the heroic deeds she performed during World War II. She and her network of women saved 2,500 Jewish children from the Warsaw Ghetto and deportation, risking their own lives in the process.
Meanwhile, three college students from Kansas are investigating this woman from her room, Irena summons her memories, weaving together the fragments of a fading thought, so that the unimaginable may never be forgotten... Navigating between fiction and historical reality, past and present, Irena recounts the evils of yesterday to heal those of today, giving voice to the notions of courage and humanity, sheds light on both the grand narrative of history and the small stories. But there are no big or small stories in life… there is only Life!
