Description

Join us on Monday 12 October at the L’Entracte cinema in Falaise for a screening of the film “Les Héros du Louvre”, followed by a discussion with Emmanuel Thiébot, historian and director of the Falaise Memorial.
The film “Les Héros du Louvre”, directed by Elie Chouraqui, starring Kad Merad and Marie Gillain (1 hour 45 minutes).
As the Second World War breaks out and the German invasion looms, Babi Maklouf, a night watchman at the Louvre, is entrusted with the task of transporting some of the museum’s treasures out of Paris. This marks the beginning of an epic and perilous family adventure across occupied France, forever linking the fate of these works to the Maklouf family.
Inspired by a true story, the film is an adaptation of the comic book *Le héros du Louvre*, by the illustrator Letizia Depedri, with a screenplay by Elie Chouraqui, based on the true story of his grandfather, a night watchman at the Louvre Museum who took part in the evacuation of the collections in 1940.
During the discussion, Emmanuel Thiébot will look back at the history of the protection and rescue of French works of art during the ‘Phoney War’, and then in the face of Nazi looting during the German occupation.
