Dans le monde romain, il est d’usage de prendre un soin tout particulier de ses morts. Faute de funérailles accomplies selon le rituel requis, les
morts ne parviennent pas à accéder à la condition à laquelle ils aspirent. Dans ce cas, ils n’hésitent pas en retour à s’en plaindre.
Au carrefour des arts et de l’archéologie, le déroulement des funérailles est une porte ouverte à l’imaginaire et aux croyances des Romains sur la mort et l’au-delà.
